November 2024:
What Is a Rigging Inspection & What Does It Involve?
A rigging inspection is a detailed check of equipment used to lift or support heavy objects in places like theaters and concert venues. The main goal is to ensure the safety and reliability of the rigging system to prevent accidents.
At PORT, our rigging inspections include an on-site review of the entire system. We look at all components to ensure they meet current safety standards and check for potential hazards on the stage. After the inspection, we provide a full report of our findings and suggest any necessary repairs. We also offer repair pricing separately and can complete the work if needed.
If there are any safety concerns, we will secure any unsafe parts and perform quick temporary fixes to make sure the area is safe right away.
Why Are Rigging Inspections Important?
Rigging inspections are crucial to keep everyone on the stage safe. Our top priority is making sure everyone leaves in the same or better condition than when they arrived. The system must be safe for both the performers and the crew working behind the scenes.
Every five years, a system needs more than just a visual check; it requires a physical inspection.
Who Needs Rigging Inspections?
Any facility that uses performance spaces with things hanging overhead should have regular rigging inspections. This includes but is not limited to performance spaces in theaters, schools, churches, arenas, or studios.
Who Governs Rigging Inspections?
Rigging inspections are governed by OSHA, ANSI, and NFPA standards. At PORT, our inspectors are highly experienced riggers with over 15 years of experience in the entertainment industry. We are also members of ESTA and The Event Safety Alliance, ensuring we follow the highest safety standards.
